To Blog or Not to Blog That Is The Question

I have been blogging now for over two years and I have never known what I am trying to achieve. Which doesn’t help when you try and write a blog and have so much whizzing around in your head.

The blog has been a mixture of personal thoughts mainly about local issues and keeping up to date with local bits and bobs.

I suppose at the time of starting my blog there was no where else on the web that was up to date locally.

It used to be a little corner of the web where I could tap away at a keyboard until my heart was content and I need not worry to much if someone read my blog or not. However strangely my love for blogging quenched my thirst for finding out more about social media and my passion for Information and Communication Technology. Which of course raised a small audience.

Ultimately it has sent me  on one hell of a learning curve and a bit of a journey and now I am finding what I want to say slightly difficult.

Which is an odd turn of events really.

I am sitting here trying to work out what is best

a)    No audience and chat to ones self but actually have something to say. (within reason of course)
b)    Have an audience and stop saying what I wanted to say. (In case I upset or offend anyone)

I have now come to the conclusion as long as I am not rude or offensive remain factual, source my information I can resume blogging with something to say instead of restraining myself.

  1. I'm not sure why you would think that people would stop reading your blog just because you start saying more 'interesting' things - it may turn out to be quite the opposite!

Seriously though, as long as your criticism is constructive, and never too personal, then I think it'd be good to hear what you are thinking. Just remember that most people in positions of responsibility are doing it for genuine and public spirited reasons, no matter how out of touch or misguided they may turn out to be. That's why I've no time for personal attacks.

But if you've got ideas of how things can be approved, then you should speak out. After all, isn't it one of the great things about the internet and blogging that you have the opportunity to share your views with a wider audience, and hopefully stimulate some debate?

  2. Dan,

I wouldn't knowingly attack anybody verbally or on line I must admit I have to restrain myself and hit the delete button sometimes as my fingers type before my brain springs into action. I don't have time for it either.

Neither do I want to hurt those public spirited people’s feelings. I know how hard they have worked in the past and now.

My concern is that sometimes people are stuck in a bubble and find it difficult to move on with the times and my perception is that they see those of that do want to move on are often seen as mischief makers and moaners. I have to find a balance somewhere.

Crime Stats Alcester North October 2020

Well as crime has been on my mind for the last couple of weeks and it has always appeared difficult to find any meaningful crime stats. I have at long last found the information used by the Police lurking on the Police.uk website. It is not live data and runs approx 6 to 8 weeks in arrears for example October 2020 is now visible. This is a totally interactive tool, easy to use and has a great dashboard, what is good about this tool it also provides outcomes. The default is for the whole of the Alcester North area however it is simple to find out where the hot spots are and which crimes have been included. So for those of you keeping an eye on the stats this may well be the tool to use. To get to the information  just click the link  below Alcester North Crime Data
