Whilst reflecting on what this blog was about, I decided to go back to some of my earlier posts to see exactly what was on my mind. Broadband was one of my top 5 subjects.  I got really excited ten years ago when I almost had a download speed of 5 MB. My how things have changed I am now the proud owner of of a broadband connection of between 70 and 73 MB. How on earth did we cope. Am I paying extra? No my broadband provider called me and asked if I wanted to take advantage of the updated speed as it was now standard for the package I was on in the area I live. My first response to the call was how much extra will this cost the little voice on the end of the phone said "nothing" Well I said if that is the case I would be silly not to allow you to upgrade my speed. Try broadband speed test Well its been quite a while since I did this and was just wondering what it was out of curiosity. Its getting there slowly but only just over half way to what I am actually paying for. No doubt one day we will enjoy the speed that those with cable have. Here's hoping

Wow I hit nearly 4 MB

Well its been a while since I tested the Broadband speed and I was in for a surprise. It got quicker see below but it is still struggling compared to a lot. 3.41MB Click On Picture to Enlarge

Apparently I have managed to down load more than 5 GB this month. I don't quite know how all I do is Tweet and Blog. I watched question time uploaded a couple of photos that was it. I am almost certain that doesn't take 5GB hey ho I have been charged an extra £5.00 suffice to say I am finished with BT. Their performance at home is one thing but when the same thing happens at work as well. I say PPP without wanting to swear It goes something like this P*** Poor Performance Try

Try broadband speed test Well I have to say folks the speed of my Broadband has gone up slightly, However it is no where near where it should be.  These are the things I have done to help myself. They are all available on your computer as standard tools. If you de-fragment your hard disk, be prepared to allow it to run without interruption ( Go to bed and leave it) Got rid of all the cookies De-fragmentation of my hard drive Got rid of all the files I don't need or want Generally de cluttered my Laptop Checked all cables leading to and from the PC and reset the wireless connection Installed Google Chrome Got rid of Internet explorer All of this has appeared to have helped me gain NEARLY 0.5 of a MB of Speed so I am now very nearly reaching 3MB of my up to 8MB.  It still makes me so cross that BT is promoting it's new product "Infinity" which is up to 40MB when on the whole we all appear to be receiving a lot lower speeds.

Today I have spent the day Spring Cleaning my computer. I have done away with Internet explorer and FireFox and decided I have got used to and quite like Google Chrome, it speeds up my browsing experience and helps BT with their PP Performance. I have defragmentated my hard drive – Thats like watching paint dry and got rid of all the rubbish I don't really want. Now this is what I can't understand I am in the garden with my laptop wizzing along like no ones Business. Infact you could say I was at the bottom of the garden eating worms and well away from the Wireless Hub so why is it that it all works so much better outside? Come on BT You can give me 3 MB of the up to 8 I pay for if you really want to. Alternatively could you cut my broadband price by 1/2 . I will accept up to 4 MB and won't quibble about the other missing 4 and a bit MB. Try broadband speed test I might even do away with moving the portable TV and watch the RW on the laptop.
